The new animated film The Super Mario Galaxy Movie promises plenty of surprises for both general audiences and, above all, longtime fans of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. series—and it might even confirm an old theory about Rosalina and Peach.
Although Nintendo fans often wonder if Princess Peach and Rosalina are related in the Super Mario universe, the games have never established a familial connection between the two blonde heroines. However, thanks to a new and intriguing detail on the film’s age rating certificate, many are wondering if the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie might clarify the situation once and for all… As reported by Kotaku, the animated film has received a PG rating in the UK for “mild violence” and “threats.” As noted on the BBFC’s rating page, under the ‘theme’ category, there are also “occasional, very mild disturbing scenes, including flashbacks of a girl being separated from her younger sister.” Could this be a major spoiler regarding the bond between the two female characters?
The line could be a reference to Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), who lives in the Mushroom Kingdom, and Rosalina (Brie Larson), who is in space: they are the only two major female characters in the film, and since the official Super Mario Galaxy trailer features several scenes where Peach ventures among the stars, it’s not hard to imagine that the film might show us a sort of heartwarming “sisterly reunion.”
Featuring the voices of Benny Safdie, Jack Black, Charlie Day, and Chris Pratt, Super Mario Galaxy – The Movie will follow Mario and Luigi on their journey through space, where they’ll team up with the powerful Rosalina to defeat Bowser’s vengeful son, Bowser Jr. A recently released poster revealed that Wart, a little-known villain from Super Mario 2, will be one of the antagonists in the family film, alongside Mouser and Birdo. He’ll be played by Luiz Guzmán, previously seen in Wednesday. Other recently announced cast members include Issa Rae (as the Honey Queen) and Donald Glover (as Yoshi).
Super Mario Galaxy – The Movie will be released on April 1, distributed by Universal Pictures: we recently added it to our list of the most anticipated animated films of 2026.
