As you will no doubt remember, the first season of Daredevil: Born Again went through a production process that was complex to say the least, with the original writers fired during production and the series entrusted to new showrunner Dario Scardapane, who had to integrate many of the scenes created for the old version of the series into the new creative direction: one of the biggest differences between the two versions is that the first was intended to be a procedural reboot unrelated to the events of Netflix’s Marvel’s Daredevil, while Scardapane (who was showrunner for Marvel’s The Punisher) integrated all the Netflix series into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making them canonical.
In this regard, Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin, spoke out bluntly against the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, stating that the second season will show the true potential of the series for the first time and will bring to life the story that he and Charlie Cox wanted to tell from the beginning with this Marvel Studios project.
“You’re in for a pretty intense season. It’s really intense. It’s not a light storyline,” Vincent D’Onofrio recently revealed, adding that the season will be “damn brutal.” “The second season was more exciting for me than the first,” he continued. “We managed to create a Frankenstein’s monster with the first season for the sole purpose of getting to this second season, which is what we really wanted to do. Part of the first season is a lot of stuff we had to live with because we had already shot it. We did a lot of additional shooting to fix things. I’d say we replaced about 60%, but we had to recycle some things from the previous version. Instead, the second season was the first time we were able to make the series we wanted to make.”
In Daredevil: Born Again 2, survival, resistance, and redemption collide in the battle for the soul of New York City: Mayor Wilson Fisk crushes the Big Apple under his feet as he hunts down public enemy number one, the vigilante of Hell’s Kitchen known as Daredevil, now that masked heroes have been outlawed. But from the shadows, and with many allies in tow, Matt Murdock will fight to overturn the Kingpin’s corrupt empire and bring justice back to the city.
Created by Dario Scardapane, the second season of Daredevil: Born Again sees the return of Charlie Cox as the masked vigilante Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as his arch-rival Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. Joining them will be Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye, Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, and Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, as well as newcomer Matthew Lillard as the mysterious Mr. Charles.
Daredevil: Born Again 2 will be released on March 25, exclusively on the Disney+ on-demand streaming platform. The series has already been officially renewed for a third season by Marvel Studios.
