The Batman Part II won’t be hitting screens until October 2027, but the buzz for this thing is already getting pretty intense. Matt Reeves is back behind the camera and Mattson Tomlin, Reeves’ co-writer, just stoked things up a bit on social media by casually suggesting that this next chapter is going to be a real game-changer.
Tomlin – who co-wrote the flick with Reeves – just posted on X: “We’ve worked really hard to tell a story that’s worthy of the character. One that feels new, fresh and a whole lot more complicated. The bar is set even higher than last time. I’m super keen to see people get their teeth into this one and really dissect it. Honestly, I’m still getting a little choked up just thinking about this film.”
This has got fans on the edge of their seats – and it’s a big deal because this thing is still almost 4 years out. But with Robert Pattinson in the Batman suit since 2022 and then a long, drawn out development phase that’s seen more speculation than official details, people have been waiting a bloody long time for this to come together.
The cast news so far – new members Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan have been added, while Zoë Kravitz won’t be back as Catwoman. Sofia Falcone (played by Cristin Milioti in The Penguin series) is also out, but Colin Farrell has hinted that his Oz Cobb character might pop up for a scene or two. Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan is coming back as the Joker, after what was only a tiny but very memorable turn in the first film.
There’s still a bit of a debate going on about whether this new Batman movie fits into the DCU – or whether James Gunn‘s DCU will just leave it to its own devices. The DC Studios director has pretty firmly said that Pattinson’s Batman won’t be part of the main DCU – and that there are no plans for any crossover – but that’s not stopping the fan theories popping up from time to time.
At the moment, though, most of what we do know is pretty vague. If Tomlin’s words are any guide, though, this next Batman might just push the boundaries of what we’ve seen in the first one, aiming to be true to the character while also throwing in some surprises.
We’re due to hit screens on October 1, 2027, for this one, but at the moment, it’s basically still in the dark ages of secrecy. What is clear, though, is that the team behind it is pretty keen to push the boundaries – and is well aware that expectations are high after the success of the first flick.
