Following the release of the first official trailer for Masters of the Universe, a new look at the highly anticipated remake of the fantasy saga has been revealed in the upcoming issue of Empire Magazine, showing us Prince Adam, his allies, and the eerie Castle Grayskull.
The next issue of Empire Magazine will shine the spotlight on Amazon MGM Studios’ remake of Masters of the Universe, and today two fantastic new covers have been unveiled: the first shows He-Man (Nicholas Galitzine), Teela (Camila Mendes), Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba) and Battle Cat side by side; the second focuses on Castle Grayskull, home of the Sorceress in the original lore of the saga. Will it be reimagined as Skeletor’s fortress in the film? We’ll have to wait and see, but in any case, the cover was created by artist Max Löffler.
Speaking to the website, director Travis Knight said:
“There’s a certain inherent silliness to this whole saga, and in this movie we’ve embraced that and incorporated it. I think silliness is a virtue, actually. And it’s woven into the script so that a lot of the absurd things in the Masters of the Universe saga can make sense to a modern audience. Like, why does that character have such a silly name? Well, throughout the film, we’ll show you why.”
When asked about casting He-Man, he added:
“I wasn’t looking for a body. I was looking for a soul. I needed someone who had the spirit of this character, who could be funny, charming, and heartbreaking, and also plausibly a great action hero. Because there’s a strong duality in this protagonist: Adam essentially represents empathy, He-Man represents strength.”
In Masters of the Universe, director Travis Knight brings the legendary franchise back to the big screen with an epic live-action adventure: after being on Earth for 15 years, Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine) is brought back to Eternia by the Sword of Power, where he discovers that his home has been destroyed by the evil rule of Skeletor (Jared Leto). To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.
Written by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and Dave Callaham, and directed by Travis Knight, Masters of the Universe stars Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Charlotte Riley, Kristen Wiig, Jared Leto, and Idris Elba. The film will be released in Italy on June 4, distributed by Eagle Pictures.
We would like to inform fans that a new television commercial for Masters of the Universe may be released during this weekend’s Super Bowl: operators have reported that Amazon will be present with the new trailer for Project Hail Mary, so perhaps there will also be room for He-Man…
