The first trailer for Netflix‘s new horror series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, has arrived. Created by the Duffer Brothers, the writers of Stranger Things, it promises a nightmarish journey inspired by classics of the genre such as Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby.
After last month’s Stranger Things finale and ahead of the upcoming animated series Stranger Things: Tales from 1985, the Duffer Brothers are set to return to the streaming platform as executive producers of this new series, with Haley Z. Boston as showrunner. The Night Manager season two star Camila Morrone plays Rachel, the bride, while The White Lotus’ Adam DiMarco plays her fiancé Nicky. According to the official synopsis, “Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen is an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a couple in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials.”
In the trailer, we see the couple taking a road trip to Nicky’s wealthy family’s vacation home before the wedding, but things don’t go as planned. “Prone to superstition and paranoia,” the synopsis continues, “Rachel can’t shake the nagging feeling that something bad is about to happen. Her doubts, combined with a series of disturbing coincidences and terrible surprises, force her to ask herself: what makes two people soul mates? And worse still: what could be scarier than a lifelong commitment to the wrong person?”
According to EW’s preview, the new series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen will see “each episode follow a single day surrounding this private ceremony, and each day Rachel’s paranoia and superstition, fueled by a growing number of strange events, will only increase.”
Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco are joined in the cast by Jennifer Jason Leigh as Nicky’s mother, Silence of the Lambs star Ted Levine as Dr. Cunningham, Jeff Wilbusch as Jules, Karla Crome as Nell, and Gus Birney as Portia.
Showrunner Haley Z. Boston, whose previous work includes series such as Baby Reindeer and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, described the new series as “an exploration of the fear of marrying the wrong person through the lens of horror” (via What’s On Netflix). According to the showrunner, the goal is for viewers to “feel the paranoia and fear that Rachel is experiencing, deliberately building the series around her discomfort.”
Something Very Bad is Going to Happen arrives on Netflix on March 26.
