The film industry is buzzing after S.S Rajamouli weighed in on social media on Sree Vishnu‘s new film “Mrithyunjay” – and for good reason. As a bit of a maverick in the industry, Rajamouli’s opinions are worth paying attention to. This week he shared the teaser for “Mrithyunjay” as part of his official Wednesday presentation and gave it a big thumbs up. He told X that he was really impressed by how the teaser was put together, particularly how the main character is on a mission to uncover the truth and that he loved the way it all came together. This has set fans’ imaginations running wild – they’re now speculating about the plot and think the line “chasing the truth” might be hinting at a much more complex story than your average police procedural.
It’s worth noting that Sree Vishnu’s acting style has undergone a bit of a transformation since his last outing in “Samajavaragamana”. Partnering up with Reba Monica John, who’s playing against him this time around, seems to have inspired him to try something new. The teaser, directed by Hussain Shah Kiran, is a masterclass in creating atmosphere with minimal dialogue – which is quite a departure from the usual loud and bombastic trailers we’re used to seeing these days. The fact that Vishnu is touting this as an “investigative” thriller suggests he’s looking to branch out and show the world he’s more than just a comedian.
Post-production is now complete, which means the team is free to focus on the big day – February 27th, 2026 – when “Mrithyunjay” is due to hit the screens. Having a release date that falls neatly between two big summer movies has got to be a bonus, as it should keep the competition from getting in the way. The production is looking pretty slick, with that teaser background score already giving some of the top thriller soundtracks a run for their money. And if Rajamouli’s seal of approval is anything to go by, “Mrithyunjay” could well be the thriller to beat next season.
