In addition to the recent leaked photo of Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and while we wait for the official trailer for the new Marvel Studios film, which will hit theaters on July 31, we would like to point out that some very interesting rumors have emerged in recent hours regarding Gwen Stacy.
Considering that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is one of the most anticipated films of the year, it’s no surprise that rumors continue to circulate about what the return of the web-slinger to the MCU this summer will hold for fans: so far, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have somehow managed to keep the names of the actors playing characters such as Boomerang and Tarantula a secret, and considering this, it cannot be ruled out that the film may also feature other stars we are not aware of.
In this regard, according to a rumor shared by scooper Majestic_ucm, the star of “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and “Twisters,” Kiernan Shipka, will play Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It should be noted that this is a new industry insider whose scoops have not yet been verified, which is why this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, but at the same time, it’s not the first time we’ve heard Gwen’s name associated with the film.
Previously, it was said that Sadie Sink would play the character, and although we now know that the Stranger Things star will most likely be Jean Grey, for what it’s worth, some other semi-reliable scoopers on social media have ‘confirmed’ Majestic’s claims. According to this rumor about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Kiernan Shipka’s Gwen was spotted in a laundromat in the same building where Peter lives.
As mentioned, we don’t have much evidence to confirm this rumor, at least for now, but what is certain is that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be a new starting point for the saga, and introducing Gwen Stacy, perhaps even with a simple scene at the end, could be the right move in view of Spider-Man 5 and 6, the next chapters in this second trilogy with Tom Holland: in the comics, Peter Parker met Gwen when they were both students at Empire State University.
Initially, the two did not get along, but eventually a romance blossomed and Gwen quickly became the greatest love of Spider-Man’s life. Tragically, she was later kidnapped and killed by Goblin, and although the wall-crawler would later date and marry Mary Jane Watson, Gwen is typically portrayed as Spider-Man’s true love. Marvel Studios doesn’t necessarily need to follow the Spider-Gwen route (who, in addition to co-starring in the Spider-Verse animated films, will also appear in the second season of the animated TV series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man), and introducing Gwen as a normal girl could be what helps Spider-Man overcome the loss of MJ. Kiernan Shipka, now 26, would undoubtedly be a good choice for the role and could ‘grow into the character’ over the next two films.
It should be noted that Gwen Stacy has appeared in all previous Spider-Man film sagas, Tobey Maguire’s (played by Bryce Dallas Howard) and, of course, Andrew Garfield’s (played by Emma Stone), while in the MCU she has so far only been mentioned in Spider-Man: No Way Home by Andrew Garfield’s Peter.
