Eric Dane, an actor known for playing various roles on the small and big screen over the years, has passed away at the age of 53. From Dr. Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy to, more recently, his recurring role in the HBO teen drama, Dane was known to multiple generations thanks to his thirty-year career.
The news of his passing came just 10 months after his ALS diagnosis shocked the world. “It is with a heavy heart that we share that Eric Dane passed away on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” read the official statement from his family to People. “He spent his last days surrounded by close friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”
“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same struggle,” his family added in the statement. “He will be deeply missed and remembered with love forever. Eric adored his fans and will be forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
Born in 1972, Eric Dane’s childhood was heavily influenced by the untimely death of his father, who was shot and killed when the future actor was only 7 years old. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters, as well as an important legacy as a successful performer and actor, including his recent involvement in HBO’s Euphoria.
