Despite no official statement from Jio Studios or B62 Studios, the Hindi film trade is in a state of frenzy with the latest news that Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge‘ has apparently secured a non-theatrical deal worth a pretty staggering Rs245cr ( $29.4M ) that’s got folks going wild if it’s true. If that’s the case, then that’d be a mega premium of nearly 100% on the 1st film’s valuation of Rs140cr, basically making it a no-brainer for the sequel nearly 3 weeks before its March 19 release.
Market insiders are saying that this time around the franchise is looking at a significant shift to a different platform – remember how the original Dhurandhar absolutely smashed it on Netflix‘s Global Non-English charts back in Jan? Well this time its reported that the sequel’s streaming rights are heading to JioHotstar & the deal is worth Rs150cr – but thats not all, there are reportedly also a big chunk of Rs50cr for broadcasting rights with Star Network & a further Rs 45cr for the rights to the soundtrack with T-Series – and this is where things get really interesting because T-Series is basically flexing its muscles with this deal, it’s a big strategic move for them given the film’s high-octane soundtrack I hear.
Those figures are pretty massive & show just how much momentum the “Ranveer-Dhar” brand has after the first film raked in a global total of Rs 13,00,00,000 – but despite all this trade analysts are being super cautious, early teasers have definitely got a lot of people excited but some in the trade are saying that the figures are purely speculative until we get the full details from formal filings or platform announcements.
As it stands if the rumors are true the film’s got its landing costs covered – & that’s Rs250cr – before it even gets to theatres – which would be a pretty huge deal for producers Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar, turning the theatrical run into a pure profit venture – you know a real rarity in todays digital world where the market correction is the only thing that seems to be making money these days.
